M-80’s make Wednesdays feel like the weekend

By Rafaelito DeAusen
With a transition from Modern English’s “I Melt With You” to The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” it won’t take long for you to realize the kind of night you are about to have with the M-80’s. Performing at Mac & Marti’s every Wednesday night, the M-80’s are reclaiming the stage after a four-year hiatus. Their pop punk beats, catchy choice of music and contagious stage presence will lead you to think that they’ve been jamming out since the birth of the Fender Stratocaster.
Sporting a lineup running from The Romantics’ “What I Like About You” to The Kink’s “You Really Got Me,” you will feel welcome to boogie on stage with them and let go of the troubles that come with your midweek blues at work.
The M-80’s ultimate goal for any who dare attend their shows is clearly get up and have a good time! At the end of the final set, front man Peter Lynn expressed a simple feeling that he wants anyone who comes to see the M-80’s to have when they leave the show: “sweaty and thirsty.” John Moore and Lynn, both on guitar and vocals, lead the stage and play the crowd well whether in between sets or songs and always during their performances. They are joined by David Cabreza on bass, Skip Perry on drums, and Rich Haines on keys and vocals.
The M-80’s originally began with five airmen from Naval Base Guam. “As each original member transferred out of Guam, local guys stepped in,” Lynn said. This M-80’s trend has been going on for more than 20 years. “Even your aunt and uncle have been in the M-80s,” Lynn joked.
Closing off their set with Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” you are sure to walk away wanting more and reminding yourself to bring your dancing shoes the next time you come. Join the M-80’s every Wednesday night at Mac & Marti’s from 10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
