The intent of Labor Day is not to spend the day laboring, but just the opposite. It’s a holiday meant for some fun in the sun. Navy MWR hosted a Labor Day beach party for sailors and their families at Gab Gab Beach for the annual bash. The sun shone brightly which allowed for great beach conditions. Beach-goers lined the strip of sandy beachfront, soaking up the sun and enjoying the water. Many headed out to the water to snorkel, while others burned their energy in the pool area. Music blasted through the speakers for entertainment. The beach celebration started at noon and finished around 3 p.m. Many scheduled activities took place. The inflatable water slide was a popular choice for the kids. Jingles the Clown was also busy with children, painting faces and creating balloon art. A popsicle-eating contest for both adults and children, as well as a dance contest provided pure entertainment for spectators. The winners of the day’s contests walked away with prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants and resorts. The beach bash was a first for Sara James and her family. New to the island, they came to check out the festivities. “We wanted to see what it was all about,” James said. “This is a pretty good setup and there is a lot to do.” You can count on MWR for more future events like this one.
