Guam Senator Respicio maybe in running for village idiot award

Okay...maybe not but he's made his bid. Taking aerial photos of the Layon Landfill site, he goes on to publicly accuse...and get as much publicity as possible...the construction company of violating their permit.

Several problems come from that accusation.

First, after taking the photos, he should quietly find out the truth. If he's correct (instead of just seeking publicity), he should then either seek a solution or go public. He went public first.

Second, it appears he was wrong. Not only has the construction company denied violations, the GEPA folks have said that, as of last Friday, there were no violations.

Did he jump the gun?

Guam Senator Ada requests dirty beaches

Okay, that's not exactly what he asked. He asked the EPA to not require secondary sewage treatment. Folks, primary doesn't cut it. Note all the beaches that are closed.

Guam's asset is its beaches. When they close, all tourism goes away. All of it.

And it won't come back.

And, without beaches, Guam becomes a miserable assignment for the military. Maybe they start downsizing.

Senator Ada needs to hear from you. Guam needs secondary treatment. With all the federal dollars coming this way, now's the time!

The cost of drinking in Guam going up?

Well, only in some parks if Senator Palacios has his way.

According to KUAM.com, he just introduced a bill allowing the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to fine violators of the "no drinking in the parks" rules. It also allows DPR to designate other areas as no drinking zones.

Currently, only 14 of Guam's parks are designated as "no drinking" areas. That number could increase. Along with the fines, it could make it easier for most to enjoy the beaches.

Beaches closed in Guam

The PDN gives us our latest in beach closings. Sooner or later, if these things aren't addressed, Tumon will be closed. That should really help the tourism business! It's time for folks to get mad about this. You don't need an economic study to know that the beaches are our best asset.
